A BEDRAGGLED guinea pig was lucky to be found by passers-by who took it to Penistone police station.
There the furry friend's good fortune held out when police community support officer Joanne Weatherall was on duty.
Joanne, 41, took the pet to her Silkstone home, where it joined five other guinea pigs, five horses, two dogs and two cats.
After 24 hours spent shivering and mostly still, the guinea pig is now full of energy and Joanne is anxious to trace its owners.
She said: “We have not called it anything yet because it might have a name. If anything, I suppose we should call it drippy because it was sopping wet when it came in.
“A couple came in who had been walking their dog, which had spotted the guinea pig on the showground. We found a box and put it in the locker room next to the radiator.
“It might have been abandoned, or else it might have escaped from a cage or a run. “I took it home and kept it inside because it had been so cold and wet and I think my guinea pigs are getting jealous because they are stuck outside.”
