THE mother of a Polish man who was savagely beaten and left for dead on a Barnsley street has made an emotional appeal for help in finding his killers.
Devastated Wanda Stalmach came from her home in Poland to be at the side of Krzysztof Pawel Stalmach, 36, as he lay dying in Barnsley hospital.
She arrived an hour before he died on Wednesday November 15 following a 36-hour journey and has now appealed for witnesses to come forward.
After spending an evening with friends, Krzysztof was found unconscious on Dodworth Road close to Springfield Street shortly after 3am on Sunday November 12. An economic migrant, he leaves three children who live in Poland.
Police believe he was the victim of an assault just before his collapse and are treating the incident as murder.
Speaking from her home in the town of Lubin, Wanda said: “My son leaves three young children who are trying to come to terms with the death of their father. “Any information that can be given to the police will be of enormous help to our family.”
Det Supt Richard Fewkes is leading a team of 30 detectives in the investigation. He said the motive for the attack remain unclear and has asked Barnsley’s Polish community for help.
“I strongly believe the answer to solving this particular crime lies within the Polish community itself, amongst individuals who knew Krzysztof.”
