FOUR stone masons from Barnsley have completed repair work to the pinnacle of a church spire which had fallen off.

The team, Alan Crossland, of Worsbrough Dale, Ian Connah, of Ward Green, Danvill Walters, of Hunningley Lane, and Colin Pickering , of Worsbrough Bridge, worked at 100ft to install the pinnacle.

It weighs about one-and-half tonnes and was lifted to the top of the spire in Humberside using a traditional block and tackle.

Carving took about eight weeks and was done in Barnsley before the stonework was transported to St Patrick's church at Patrington.

The quartet work for mason, Peter Moore. He said: "The original pinnacle fell off and went through the roof and into the chancel."
