PENISTONE'S Brook brothers both kicked off 2007 in emphatic style last week, in differing conditions. Dann, 21, entered the Milton Keynes Duathlon with team-mates from the Loughborough University High Performance Centre and in wet and windy conditions, he showed that he had fully recovered from his recent mountain bike accident, by winning the event against stiff competition. Dann was in the leading group on the first run, recording 13.54 for the first 4.5k run, and staying in the front group throughout the 16km bike leg. Brook then made his break early in the second run, and held on to complete the 4k in 13.39 – winning by 11 seconds. Dann is coached by Simon Ward.
Meanwhile, younger brother Dom travelled to get some warm weather training at the La Santa complex on Lanzarote. Domm teamed up for training with ex Barnsley elite cyclist Steve Naylor who is now resident on the Island. After an arduous week of cycling, 17-year-old Dom entered the La Santa triathlon on his last day, and proved his strength by winning the event by over two minutes from the second place competitor. Dom completed the 400m swim in the 50m pool in 4.50, exiting the pool area in 5.12 in first place, and extended his lead with the fastest bike time of 27.14 for the nine mile route. Dom then demonstrated his rapid improvement on the run by completing the event with the third fastest time of 17.35 for the 4.6k route alongside the lagoon to finish in a total time of 50.00.
