A RECYCLING business has gone into liquidation with a loss of ten jobs after the Environment Agency revoked its environmental permits.

The permits allowed SR Waste Recycling Ltd to operate its waste electrical and electronic recycling facility at Shaw Lane, Carlton, and a site at Oakwell Business Park, although the latter was not in use.

Both permits were revoked on June 30 following a notice period.

Both the firm, and its owner Simon Robinson, are due in Barnsley Magistrates' Court later this month to answer charges of failure to comply with an enforcement notice requiring the removal of non-permitted waste, and to ensure that any waste electrical and electronic equipment stored at the site is covered and has appropriate weatherproofing.

Mr Robinson said the revocation of permits had been a 'death knell' and the firm had to cease trading, but declined to comment further due to the pending court case.

An Environment Agency spokesman said: "Without an environmental permit or relevant exemption from the Environment Agency, a company cannot legally operate as a waste electrical and electronic equipment recycling business.

"Any company that uses waste disposal services of a firm or individual not in possession of an environmental permit or relevant exemption would be in breach of their duty of care and liable to enforcement action by the Environment Agency."
