A TRIBUTE concert to Barnsley funnyman Charlie Williams will be held next month.

It will be at Batley Variety Club on February 28 and feature many of the acts who appeared with Charlie during his heyday in the 1970s. Acts include Duggie Brown and The Grumbleweeds.

It is hoped the concert will raise between £15,000 and £20,000 for the Barnsley Parkinson's Disease Society. Charlie, who died last September, was chairman of the society.

Organiser Neil Crossland, 61, who runs Bolton-on-Dearne showbiz clothing company Stagewear Unlimited, said: “It was decided to hold a concert rather than a memorial service because Charlie was not a great churchgoer.”
