PLANS for four huge warehouses backing on to a residential estate are being withdrawn after 22 objections - but a scaled down application will be made within weeks.
Gladman Developments have agreed to rethink the plans at the Wentworth Industrial Park, Tankersley, after Barnsley council told them they would not be approved. There were problems with the proximity of one building to neighbouring houses and concerns about proposals to fell protected trees.
They were asked to consider developing the site as offices but the company has said the new application will still be for warehouse space.
There has been major opposition to the original plans from residents of Stone Leigh and Stone Row Court who feared the development would dominate the street, create constant noise and pollution and block sunlight. It would destroy a well used footpath.
One of the warehouses - a three storey building with roughly 9,000 square metres of floor space - would be built adjacent to several back gardens on Stone Row Court.
