THE framework of a controversial 70 foot high warehouse has been erected - and nearby residents are stunned by its sheer size.
Protesters who campaigned against the distribution warehouse being built at Ashroyd Business Park, off Upper Hoyland Road, say the warehouse is even more massive than they ever envisaged.
The steel framework which was put up last Tuesday by developers Ackroyd and Abbott completely dominates the landscapes of Upper Hoyland and Blacker Hill. Such is its size there have been claims it can be seen in Worsbrough Village.
Christine Price's Upper Hoyland Road house overlooks the development.
She said: “I looked out my kitchen window and it was suddenly there, and it’s been getting bigger ever since. It’s a monstrosity, it’s like a jumbo jet hanger. I can’t believe the council have let them get away with this. I'm devastated. We had visitors the other day and they were stunned. This was a lovely green area and it has been totally ruined.”
She added trees which are being planted to ease residents’ views would have to be so big they would completely block her garden's light.
