THE Duke of Gloucester returned to Wentworth Castle Gardens this week to see the restored Victorian conservatory.

Prince Richard, who is the Queen's cousin and a qualified architect, chatted with members of staff and planted a raffia palm in the Asia flowerbed more than ten years after his first visit in 2003.

Director Claire Herring said: "The Duke was suitably impressed. He got to meet the architect and the landscape architect and hear about some of the challenges we had overcome during the restoration.

"The Duke came to us before in 2003 before the restoration work had started and it was really good to show him all the hard which has been done."He remembered coming here before and was really pleased."

The room - originally built in 1732 - is a future renovation project for the castle and Stainborough Park Heritage Trust, the registered charity which manages the 500-acre parkland.
