BRIERLEY town councillors have voted against abolishing the town council.
Members were requested as part of the Community Governance Review to consider whether or not the town council should formally consider the motion that the Civil Parish of Brierley be abolished as a tier of government.
Last week the Chronicle revealed a referendum will take place for residents to decide whether to keep the town council or not.
A Facebook page called 'Save Brierley Town Council' has been set up anonymously, encouraging local people to 'vote no' against abolishment.
But at its meeting on Wednesday, the councillors themselves had to vote on whether to abolish the council.
Only Coun Frank Hardy voted in favour of abolition. Seven voted to save the council, and one abstained.
