A RISE in the fire service tax has been agreed which will allow for new firefighters to be recruited later this year.
The South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority approved proposals to increase its precept by around 3p per week for an average household after a 1.97 per cent rise was agreed at its meeting on Monday.
It will allow the service to recruit up to 16 new firefighters to replace retiring staff.
