A STAINCROSS vicar is going to Afghanistan for a three-month operational tour with the Army. Rev Jim Butterworth, of St John the Evangelist Church, Greenside, will be chaplain to the field hospital at Camp Bastion in Helmand. He reports for duty at the end of March along with other staff of the 212 Field Hospital, based at Endcliffe Hall, Sheffield, and will undergo two weeks’ training before setting off to the Middle East in mid April. The hospital will care for Britain’s service personnel as well as some Afghan civilians. Mr Butterworth said: “I am privileged to be given this opportunity. It will be a new experience and I'm looking forward to all I will learn.”
