NEW members are needed to keep Tankersley Bowling Club from closing after 30 years. Membership has dwindled to about 12 and it can be difficult to field teams for Barnsley League games if one or two are unable to attend. “We’re struggling for new members and are in danger of folding without them,” said Steve Ayres. The club meets at the green by the side of the welfare hall in Pilley village. “We need eight to play a team in the league and it’s difficult if people are on holiday or ill. We’d like some young people to join, but they tend to move on to other activities when they get to 15 or 16.” The season runs from April to September and is open every day. Matches are usually played on Monday and Thursday evenings. Anyone wanting more information or is interested in joining the club should telephone Steve on 360127 or the club secretary Chris on 746503.
