POLICE are investigating after a mystery man wielding a hammer carried out a trio of armed robberies in the past week - two of which took place in Darfield and the Dearne.
A branch of the Co-operative Food, at Cathill Services, Doncaster Road, Darfield and a Premier store on Barnsley Road, West Melton were targeted by a man who covered his face and wielded a hammer during the robberies.
A branch of Sainsbury's in Doncaster was also targeted.
The man, described as white, around 6ft 3ins tall and slim, threatened staff with a hammer and fled after taking money and cigarettes.
In a statement, South Yorkshire Police said detectives are following a number of lines of enquiry and believe the incidents to be linked. They would like to speak to witnesses or anyone with information about any of the robberies.
