PLANS to convert the former CEAG site into a car park will be discussed by planning bosses next week.
The plans include 173 vehicles spaces, 20 bicycle spaces along with lighting and CCTV.
The site, between Kendray Street and Harborough Hill, is cut off from the town centre by the railway line and pedestrians must use the level crossing - ranked 17th most dangerous in the country by Network Rail.
The car park is part of the £50m Better Barnsley plan to redevelop the market. There are also plans to create a bridge linking the market, the interchange and the car park but this is subject to further negotiation with rail bosses.
The CEAG building was demolished in 2012.
