‘EXTREME surprise, anxiety and anger’, are the reactions of residents to a refuse recycling plan for Hood Green.

More than 80 residents have voiced serious concerns about the future of the village and the safety of its roads following planning applications for a composting facility as well as storage for 100 caravans on Bagger Wood Hill Farm.

“Hood Green is one of the last locations in Barnsley that is completely unspoilt,” said John Hewitt, of House Carr Lane. “This industrial proposal will completely destroy this sleepy village forever.”

The proposed facility is designed to deal with 4,500 tonnes of green waste a year, producing compost to be spread on the land of farmer Eric Danforth, who has submitted the applications.

Chartered architects Nuttall Yarwood and Partners anticipate that five heavy goods vehicles, ten caravans and two cars will enter and exit the site, now a redundant colliery, each day.
