ELDERLY people with early morning hospital appointments will soon be able to travel by bus for free.
Stagecoach is launching a trial scheme next month that will allow free travel for elderly concessionary pass holders going to Barnsley Hospital before 9.30am by simply showing their appointment letter to the driver.
Paul Lynch, Stagecoach Yorkshire managing director, revealed the new plan at an arranged meeting with the Barnsley Retirees Action Group.
Mr Lynch said: "During our meeting we announced the introduction of a trial scheme, from June 15, allowing elderly pass holders to catch a Stagecoach Yorkshire bus for free to hospital appointments requiring travel before 9.30am, by showing the driver their official hospital appointment letter and their concessionary pass."
