A PIRATE themed charity toddle almost ended in disaster for a group of Wombwell toddlers after thieves took the treasure at the end of the course.

Carla Goddard, from Carla's Childcare Crew, based on Overdale Road, organised the charity toddle in aid of Barnados.

She ordered a bag of special pirate themed chocolate coins online and placed them at the end of the route, in Wombwell Park, alongside medals sent by Barnados for the youngsters who completed the walk.

But when they reached the finish, 15 minutes after Carla, 33, had first hidden the treasure, it was gone.

Carla said: "I put it there myself, so when I spotted it was missing my heart sank. They are all kids aged between two and four.

"How do you explain to them that someone has pinched their treasure? I could have cried for them."
