A PENSIONER fears new street lighting installed on an estate has contributed to a spate of car break-ins.
Darton resident Jim Brownlow believes the energy efficient lighting installed on his road six weeks ago by Barnsley Council has left him and other neighbours vulnerable because they have been put on old lamp posts so the light 'doesn't spread as far'.
Coun Roy Miller said: "The visual appearance of LED lighting is very different from the older lighting stock, and provides a brighter white light.
"While this might give an altered appearance, we can assure residents that lighting levels are not compromised and in many cases are far in excess of the required lighting standards."
