A ROYSTON pensioner who has recently arrived back from helping thousands of refugees on the island of Kos has described the "shocking" conditions faced by those fleeing ISIS.
Sue McGougan-Micklethwaite, of Newtown Avenue, spent a week on the Greek island with friend Rachel Miller in August and handed out supplies including clothing, suncream, nappies, food and water to those escaping war-torn countries such as Syria.
She said: "Every single day we would see dinghys coming across from Turkey. It was horrendous - there were people of all ages, including newborn babies. They're there on their knees, starving to death, eating off the floor. It really is shocking."
Sue is planning on going back next month and her home is filled with cargo to take to Kos. More than £5,000 has been pledged to a Go Fund Me page over the last three weeks so more supplies can be bought by Sue and Mrs Miller.
