A LIFE-LONG friend of a former Barnsley nursing sister, Kathleen Byrne, would like to know if anyone remembers her when she worked at the former Beckett Hospital.
Kathleen was sister on Wentworth Ward (the orthopaedic ward) during the latter part of the Second World War. It is known that she was still employed there in 1949 and in subsequent years.
After her spell in Barnsley, Kathleen moved to Westbury in Wiltshire where she met her husband, Dennis Cook, a school headmaster. Kathleen, now 86, still lives in Westbury. Her husband died several years ago.
Her friend, Betty Brown, said: “It is possible that someone who worked with or who was in hospital when Kathleen was on the wards still remembers her. If so, I would be pleased if they would contact me on 01226 231466 as I am sure she would he delighted to hear from them.”
