The referee made the decision that the pitch was unsafe after a huge downpour of rain before the start of the game. The announcement was made at the original kick-off time of 7.45pm after the start had been delayed by five minutes.
The match is likely to be rearranged for Tuesday October 13 but the clubs need permission from the Football League.
Chief executive Ben Mansford said: "There was nothing anyone could do after the amount of rain. I would like to thank fans who made the journey in remarkable numbers of about four hundred and encourage them to collect their vouchers for a refund."
