BARNSLEY has been ranked as one of the least prosperous areas of Britain to live in, according to an index published last week.
The town was placed joint 154th along with Doncaster and Rotherham in the first ever geography of prosperity index, released by the Legatum Institute.
The London-based Legatum Institute, which describes itself as an international public policy think tank aiming to promote prosperity, said the findings were based on average incomes and how happy people feel.
Wolverhampton and the Black Country borough of Sandwell - which includes West Bromwich - were placed last and second last in terms of prosperity, with Blackpool, Liverpool and East Derbyshire completing the bottom five.
