DEMOLITION work has started in Hoyland as part of the £4.5million scheme to revive the town centre.
Construction workers have fenced off St Andrew’s church hall on Market Street ready to take the building down, after the long-awaited town centre and market redevelopment scheme was approved by Barnsley Council last week.
The developer behind the project is Resilienti. Managing director Kerrie Whiteley said: “Our programme is to complete all demolition by December 2015 and start on Duke Street to create a new town car park aiming to complete this by January 2016 and open it to the public. Then our focus is to build the new town market and kiosks on Southgate with a target date for completion in April. We aim to have the new market moved and fully operational by then.”
