AN INDIAN-owned business is to open a logistics warehouse in Barnsley, creating 100 new jobs.

It is part of a £9 billion package of commercial deals agreed between India and the UK to coincide with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the UK last week.

Number 10 announced on Friday that Indian company TVS plans to open a £20 million advanced logistics facility in Barnsley generating 100 new jobs, growing to 500 across the TVS Group over five years.

The new 165,000 square foot premises is being built at the Ackroyd and Abbotts Ashroyd Business Park, just off junction 36. It will allow for TVS’s subsidiary company, Universal Component UK, to expand to Barnsley from existing premises in Sheffield.
