A PUBLIC meeting is too little, too late, say residents and a Pennine moorland riding school angry at changes alongside the Trans-Pennine Trail.
Trees and shrubs have been chopped down at Wogden Foot, east of Dunford Bridge, to make way for the planned grazing of cattle and sheep as part of a preservation project.
But walkers, cyclists and riders who use the popular site claim that changes carried out by Sheffield Wildlife Trust have ruined the area and pose a risk to the public.
Sandra Horn, 61, of Upper Gate, Hepworth, said: “The area is not suitable for cows - they don’t like dogs and it won't be safe for children. I take the grandchildren to wander around and see the beautiful flowers, but now we'll have to stick to the trail, which is more boring.”
Horses and riders from Rocky’s Western Horse Riding Adventures, at Townhead, may also be forced to curtail their use of the area, says owner Rocky Howard, who leads up to 50 horses a week through the site.
