A POPULAR Grimethorpe community hub’s future has been saved after months of uncertainty.

Volunteer-run New Options, which was expected to close as part of Brierley Town Council’s proposed abolishment, has been given the green light to continue by Barnsley Council - no matter what happens with the debt-ridden parish.

Staff from the building, on St Luke’s Road, held crisis talks with council leader Sir Steve Houghton and Couns Jeff Ennis, Dorothy Higginbottom and Allan Hampson last week.

A spokesman from Barnsley Council added: “Following discussions regarding New Options, we’re pleased to confirm that its lease will transfer from Brierley Town Council to Barnsley Council.

“The immediate future of the service has been secured.”
