TWO Syrian refugee families will be supported by Barnsley Council as part of the government’s resettlement programme, the Chronicle has learned.
All 21 councils in the Yorkshire and Humber region have agreed to accept refugees as part of plans to house 20,000 people from Syria.
A spokesman for Barnsley Council said it will do whatever it can to support individuals and families in crisis.
“By looking at the current pressures on housing, school places and public services, we have committed to support two refugee families in Barnsley.”
The government will meet the cost of housing and supporting the refugees.
