A PRIVATE ambulance service from Barnsley has been working around the clock this week to help flood relief work in Yorkshire.

Lincs Medical Services, which is based at Carlton Industrial Estate, sprang into action and headed for York on Sunday after hundreds of residents were evacuated from their homes on Boxing Day.

Matt Staley-Harrison, operations director, said: "Obviously we have all seen what has gone on on the news so we felt like we could help out in some way.

"When we heard that places nearby such as Calderdale, Leeds and York were affected, we then decided to go.

"We went to York on Sunday and have been back and forth since, but we will also be taking a team to other badly affected places in West Yorkshire in the coming days.

"It is a shocking thing that has happened and those affected deserve all the help they can get."

Matt, 23, has issued an appeal to Barnsley residents to donate non-perishable items to those who have been forced out of their homes.

* To donate, drop off any items at Unit 9, Construction Way, Carlton Industrial Estate.
