POLICE are investigating the possibility that water running onto the road led to three car crash in which a young girl was critically injured.

Officers said yesterday they were considering whether heavy rains on Monday caused water to run across the carriageway of the A628 between Silkstone and Hoylandswaine, and if this was a contributory factor in the crash.

The four-year-old girl, named on social media as Rosie Marie Davies, is critically ill and her three-year-old brother, Charlie John, serious injured following the crash on a notorious accident blackspot road that left eight people hurt.

Six people had to be cut free from the damaged vehicles.
