PENSIONERS have issued a warning after a bogus letter celebrating a €600,000 lottery jackpot win came through the letterbox.

The couple, who are both in their 80s and do not wish to be named, are concerned that other people will fall victim to what they see as a growing scam targeting Barnsley residents.

The Locke Avenue resident said he did not fall for the Spanish Sweepstake Lottery letter sent from Roquetas de Mar in Spain, which asks for personal information including bank details. “It’s hard to believe that people can be conned by such a blatant scam, but the people you’re dealing with are masters of conning,” he said.

The Chronicle reported on a similar letter received by a Princess Street resident in March. Police warned that the letter is a fake and appealed for anyone who receives a copy to report it.
