The mum of a popular teenager who died in a tragic accident last week has spoken of her daughter who “loved life”.
Kate Roystone fought back tears as she paid tribute to Amber Worth who died in a quarry while playing with friends last Wednesday.
Kate of Park Avenue, Brierley, said Amber was a free spirit and an ‘entrepreneur in the making’.
She said Amber, 13, was always trying to make money and in the summer holidays would set up her own businesses.
Last summer it was car cleaning, this year was going to be dog walking. She also wanted to be a hairdresser.
Kate said: “She had a hair appointment on her birthday. That’s all she went on about, she wanted it doing the best. She was obsessed with her hair and cutting other people’s.
“She would charge £1 a hair cut and there are more kids walking around with wonky fringes. She would say to my dad ‘I will brush your hair for a fiver’.
“Last summer she set up a car cleaning business called Star Shine but she never bought her own cleaning stuff. She would take my mum’s stuff and then mine. I went into the cupboard one day and had no tea towels.
“She was the life and soul and made everybody laugh.”
Amber died when she slipped and was crushed by a boulder in a quarry behind Carlton Main brickworks. When reporters visited this week it was still easily-accessible.
Kevin Wilson, managing director, offered condolences to her family and said the company is co-operating with an investigation.
