SEVERAL streets have gone all week without getting their mail after a postman was threatened with a hammer.

Residents in Athersley South said a youth had chased the postman wielding a hammer on Saturday, after subjecting him to months of verbal abuse.

As a result, streets including Buxton Road, Bakewell Road and Crich Avenue were left without their post all week.

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: “The safety and welfare of our staff is paramount and the suspension of delivery is always a last resort and we sincerely apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused.”
