BARNSLEY will receive cash windfall from government to repair more than 4,000 pot holes blighting the borough.

The council will receive a £218,000 share of the government’s £250 million Pothole Action Fund to fix 4,113 potholes in the town. Funding is calculated according to the length of the local road network in the area.

The announcement by government yesterday will be welcome news for the borough’s motorists and cyclists as the cash boost will be used to help repair local roads damaged by severe winter conditions.

Barnsley is one of 14 councils in Yorkshire and The Humber to receive funding, helping to remove about 98,000 potholes from the region’s roads during this financial year.
