BARNSLEY FC have announced that their new main sponsor from the start of next season will be Sheffield-based solicitors Wake Smith – where Reds director Duncan Shepherd is a partner. The Oakwell outfit have signed a two-year deal with Wake Smith, who will have their company logo on the front of the home and away kits. Barnsley chairman Gordon Shepherd said: “We are absolutely delighted to have secured this significant sponsorship deal for the club with a very successful local firm of solicitors. “I am sure that it will be a very significant deal for both parties and we are extremely happy to have joined forces ahead of next season's Championship campaign.” Wake Smith is a thriving law firm, with 23 partners and 160a staff. They have expertise in all areas of the law and a 200-year history in serving the people of South Yorkshire. Following a merger last year with Benson Clegg, the firm is now based at three sites across Sheffield. John Baddeley, partner in the company commercial team, led the talks with the Oakwell Club. He said: “When the opportunity arose to be the next Barnsley FC sponsor we jumped at the chance. “All the partners are delighted to be the official sponsor and to be able to raise the profile of the firm in this way. “We are looking forward to many joint benefits.”
