AMY Oliver carried on a magnificent family tradition when she became British champion at the British Field and Archery Championships in Wales last weekend. In the last 15 years, four other members of her family have been named British Champion at the sport. At the latest event, Amy's aunt Michelle Kiddy took second place. Last year the roles were reversed when Michelle (35) was crowned British Championship and Amy (19) was second. In what could be a unique record, the five members of the Kiddy family who have held the British Field and Archery Championship title are; Michelle, her mum Joyce Kiddy, father Albert, sister Lynda and now niece, Amy. They are members of the Dearne Valley Archery Club, the most represented club in British archery. The interest in the sport started with mum and dad, Joyce and Albert. "They became involved in the sport before I was born and when my sister and I became old enough we also became interested. "This has now been carried on by Amy. We were confident she would do well this year and we were delighted when she became British champion," said Michelle. Amy had already been British junior champion twice and has represented her country several times, as well as other members of the family. They have competed at several locations around the world, including Las Vegas and Sweden where the World Field Archery Championships were held last year. Amy was placed tenth. Michelle and Amy have now been selected to represent Great Britain at the European Field Archery Championships in Croatia in August. "It's a very busy life as we train three times a week and compete most weekends, but we are very dedicated to the sport," said Michelle.
