WOMBWELL and Darfield appear to be up for sale.

The town hall, Wombwell High and Darfield Foulstone schools and other pockets of land are on a list of sites the council wants to ‘dispose’ of in the next three years.

The sites are planned for sale in the 2009/10 year. The two schools will be replaced by one Advanced Learning Centre for Wombwell and Darfield.

All the land and buildings for sale across Barnsley could total £85.6m after the auctioneers have taken their fees.

The Building Schools For the Future project to build nine secondary schools will benefit to the tune of £57m.

Part of the former Park Street school site at Wombwell, the council's Wombwell depot at Ings Road and the old Gables special school are proposed for sale this year.
