AN OUTBREAK of a sickness bug has forced a Barnsley primary school to close today.
Summer Lane Primary sent out an urgent notice to parents via text message yesterday warning them a high level of sickness and diarrhoea was working its way through the school.
After consulting with the public health department, and health and safety, the school offered parents the chance to pick their children up early to try and limit the spread.
A deep clean was carried out yesterday evening and the school remains closed today.
Reports on social media suggested as many as 18 children in one class had been affected. A number of staff also phoned in ill.
Mums and dads were told that any child who has been sick or had diarrhoea must not come back until Monday at the earliest.
