FLOOD hit Elsecar has been counting the cost after more than the equivalent of a month's rain fell in 13 hours.
Homes were evacuated, businesses shut and children sent home during the worst flooding to hit the region in more than 60 years.
Rachel Burns and daughter Laura, 18, of Welland Crescent, Elsecar were evacuated by fire-fighters when floodwater poured into their home on Monday morning.
Rachel said: “My house has been completely wiped out. I have lost the lot. My car is flooded - it is up to the seats in water.
“I just don't know what to do. I have got no family around here and I have got nowhere to go.”
Neighbour, Amanda Down, 43, was off work sick when she saw the rescue at around 11.55am.
She said: “I saw the fire brigade rescue them and said they could bring them here if they needed somewhere to go.
“I think it's terrible that it can happen in this day and age but the worst thing is feeling so helpless. Nobody can do anything.”
The water, which looked to stream from a manhole cover in Jump, was around 6ft deep in the garden and at least 2ft deep in the house.
Rachel said she was shocked by the speed of the flooding but was not surprised it had happened.
