A DOG ‘kidnapped’ by car thieves and then dumped miles from home has been reunited with his owners following a search ordeal lasting more than five days.

Cochi, a five year old cross-bred Akita, had been left in a parked Mitsubishi Shogun by owner Jamal Maham last Friday evening and he assumed, because the dog was on board, it was safe to leave the keys in the ignition.

But thieves were undeterred and drove off in the vehicle from Manchester Road, Thurlstone, later dumping the dog - a family pet - apparently near the M1.

Mr Maham’s partner Alicja Szwabe was in Poland at the time and she made a 12 hour journey to get home to join the hunt for Cochi after he was seen repeatedly around the Trans Pennine Trail area in Gilroyd and Worsbrough.
