A DEVOTED uncle is hoping to fundraise the cost of the life-changing wheelchair for a child with brittle bones, by taking on the London Marathon.
Adam Waller, 32, of Hallcroft Gardens, Great Houghton, is taking on the race on April 23 for the Children’s Hospital Charity, to thank Sheffield Children’s Hospital for the care they give his three-year-old nephew Jack Waller.
Jack’s life has been transformed thanks to a special wheelchair, funded by the charity at a cost of £1,700 - and now Adam wants to raise the same amount.
Jack was diagnosed with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI), more commonly known as brittle bones, when he was just six weeks old.
That means his bones are very fragile and can break easily. His parents even had to be trained how to pick him up, care for him and change his nappy, without causing him harm.
