A former Barnsley woman has been put in touch with a school friend from more than 50 years ago - thanks to the Chronicle.

Ann Ellis, 66, is the daughter of the late Eric Millward, who was superintendent at the former Wentworth Castle Teacher Training College from 1950 to the 1970s.In May, to mark the multi million pound refurbishment of the building and grounds, the Chronicle took Ann along to see how much the castle and her former home had changed since childhood.

A Canadian woman carrying out research in Barnsley saw the feature in the Chronicle and took it to show her mother in British Columbia.

"Is this the Ann you are always talking about?" she asked.

Her mother, Pat McCloud, has written to Ann to renew their friendship.

Ann, now of Birds Edge, Huddersfield, said:" I just can't believe it. It's the first time I have heard from her in 50 years. She said she often wondered what had happened to me.

"We went to Hood Green School together and we were both members of the choir at the church at Wentworth Castle.

"After school she started work at Marks and Spencer and we just drifted apart, but I am going to write back."
