FRUSTRATED park-goers are annoyed a popular cafe will remain shut for the duration of the summer.

Elsecar park cafe has been closed since the previous tenants moved out in March but will not reopen until at least next month.

Residents and park volunteers were demanding to know why it has taken the council over five months to find a new tenant.

Forge community partnership vice chairman Robin Franklin said the park has suffered as a result of the cafe being closed.

He said: “The cafe is an integral part of the park. We are talking about a public amenity which is important to the park and to the people.

“We have had as many as 500 people a day going into the park and it is just a waste and so sad they can’t get a cup of tea.

“I was told it would be open by May but that came and went. I was then promised the end of June and here we are at the end of August and still there’s nobody.”
