GRAFFITI and vandalism on the front door of a Darfield house was assumed to be the work of a hooded teenager - but it turned out to be a 68-year-old man.

Coronation Street Neighbourhood Watch decided to train a CCTV camera on a particular front door that had been daubed three times with paint and tar.

On the night the camera arrived, the pest struck for a fourth time, unaware that the camera with see-in-the-dark infrared technology was recording him.

A Neighbourhood Watch spokesperson said: “I was just so shocked to find out it was a pensioner. We all expected it to be a young person.

“It is fantastic news that we have got this problem sorted out because it was getting out of hand.” The man was arrested and bailed while police from the SNT, who assisted with the camera operation, make further enquiries.
