WATH police made 11 arrests for drugs offences when they set up a major one day crackdown as part of South Yorkshire Police’s Operation Impact campaign against crime and disorder.

The multi-agency operation between the police and Rotherham Council in Wath and Swinton resulted in 13 drugs warrants being executed, three arrests of burglary, driving while disqualified and the theft of a motor scooter. Five vehicles with expired road tax were seized and one for being on the road without insurance.

“It was the biggest joint operation to take place in the Wath area,” said Sgt Bill Bell of the Wath Safer Neighbourhood Team.

“It included officers from a range of departments within the Police and Rotherham 2010. I’m very happy with the results and that we’re working together en masse to eradicate problems and reassure the public.”

More operations are planned and Sgt Bell said that his team will continue to fight the anti-social behaviour which affects everyone’s quality of life.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team drafted in Rotherham Council officers from the Environmental, Trading Standards and Housing Departments and Education Welfare Officers to support police officers, PCSOs, drugs officers, special constables and Task Force officers.

Local councillors joined them to get in insight into how they operated and watched officers working on the ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Reading System).
