ELEVEN- year -old Liam Gaunt tried to suffocate himself with a plastic bag and asked his mum to kill him because his life was not worth living.

He has asperger syndrome and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder but suffered years of misunderstood misery because the mental health service refused to send him to a specialist.

The West Meadows primary pupil regularly goes into violent rages, has smashed up the school library and was put on suicide watch at Barnsley hospital.

For the last few months he has only been able to attend school for a couple of hours a day.

Emma and dad James were convinced their son had a problem but a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service team leader decided it was not medical.

Liam has been under CAMHS care since April 2007 but its monitoring failed to identify his conditions until last week.
