FAMILY and friends of rugby player Lee Pocklington, who died after a motorbike accident, have raised £3,000 to benefit the ward where he was treated.

Parents Steve and Joan, brother Craig and fiancee Sarah were touched by the care given to Lee, 24, and the efforts to save him.

They immediately started raising money for the specialist neuro department at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield.

Proceeds from Barnsley Rugby Club's first game since his death and donations at his funeral made up the £3,000 which will be spent on equipment for the N1 high dependency ward.

He was testing his motorbike on the street outside Steve and Joan's house at Redbrook on Sunday January 6 when he was thrown off suffering head injuries.

He was taken to Barnsley Hospital and then transferred to Sheffield.

He never regained consciousness and died on Wednesday January 9.

Lee's family decided to donate his organs for transplant and as a result saved the lives of five people, including children.
