RESIDENTS have lost their battle to stop a massive Aldi warehouse and distribution centre being built on agricultural land at Goldthorpe.
Despite more than 100 objections and representations at a planning meeting on Tuesday, councillors gave the £25 million project, covering almost 80, 000 square feet, the go-ahead.
Dawn Noakes, speaking on behalf of local residents, told the meeting she was an ordinary housewife and although she couldn't talk about money she could talk about the health and happiness of children because the development is close to three schools, in particular Heathergarth.
She added: "Kids have been learning in schools that the environment is the future. I can't believe that something this vast can be proposed to be built next to schools.
"It is in a beautiful place, it is going to pen us in and take away our view. I think it is cruel to do what they are going to do."
