TWO BARNSLEY councillors are launching a 'local hero' campaign to get recognition for hardworking people in the community.
Councillors Steve Webber and Robert Barnard want the public to vote for their local heroes, from fund raisers to life savers, as a way of saying thank you.
Yesterday two women from Penistone who have raised thousands of pounds for charity attended the Mayor's lunch at the town hall.
Elsie Marshall, 87, and Diana Bramall, 76, have raised tens of thousands of pounds for charities over 20 years.
Coun Webber said: "We hope a different hero can be nominated every few months and we can then invite them along to the Mayor's lunch. It will be a great way to recognise people who do a lot for their community. The amount of money these women raised is phenomenal."
If anyone would like to nominate a local hero get in touch with Coun Webber on stevespenistoneheroes@hotmail.com and tell why this person deserves some recognition.
