RUGBY player Jonathan Timms is donning a pink headguard throughout this season.

Jonathan, 23, of The Balk, Staincross, is to raise money for Cancer Research after his granddad, Gerald Timms, died of cancer of the bladder last year.

He said: "Since my granddad died I wanted to do something. I saw someone else do this and it looked good."

Jonathan, who has transferred to Hoyland Vikings from Oulton Raiders, has ordered the headguard from a company in Australia.

And he is not worried about getting stick from his team mates.

He added: "I haven't told them yet. A few of them know and think it's a good idea and so does my coach. Hopefully people will be able to see beyond the colour and see what it's for."

Jonathan has set himself a target of £1, 000 but said: "I'm hoping to get more than that over the year."
